CONVERSION OF 7250 SERIES TO 7251 SERIES BALANCERS

To improve the safety of our product, we are providing a conversion kit to change the 7250 series balancer to a 7251 series balancer. The kit includes a new spring, a new drum and a new label to attach to the front housing cover. The manufacturer has changed the location of the safety detent from the outer wall of the housing to the outer wall of the spring cannister. This means that each time the spring is changed, the unit will have a new safety detent. For the new spring to function, the drum must also be changed. It is the same drum modified to accommodate the new spring and is not interchangeable with the old version.

The procedure to install the new drum and spring using the conversion kit is:

Follow the operating instructions to remove the tension, and old spring. Then:

1. Remove the rear cover disc, the snap ring and install a 6mm cap head screw into the rear of the shaft. Tap on the cap head until the shaft slides out of the worm gear. Remove the drum and shaft, and continue tapping on the shaft until the shaft slides out through the bottom bearing in the old drum.

2. Grease the bearing in the bottom of the new drum. Slide the shaft through the bottom bearing and install the bottom drum washer. Slide the shaft through the bottom hole in the housing and using a soft hammer, tap on top of the shaft until it bottoms out in the bearing. Back out the drum and shaft until the bottom end is flush with the outer edge of the housing and install the worm gear into the worm. Slide the shaft through the worm gear and install the keys into the key ways. Install the snap ring and the rear cover disc.

3. Adjust the location of the slot in the shaft by rotating the worm so that the outer lip of the spring and inner lip of the spring will slide into position easily. The spring is installed with the label side up. Follow the instructions for replacing the spring in the operating instructions and be sure to use the new 7251 load range table for pre- tensioning the model being converted.

4. Install the drum cover with new lock washers and install the housing cover.

5. Install the new label on the housing cover.
